My friend Ron Coulson (who I’ve known practically forever) has challenged himself to write a poem a day this year. He is well underway. This is #63 of 366, because, you know, leap year.
I’ll be the first to admit I’m no poet (any evidence to the contrary cannot be proven), but the subject matter here is near and dear to me — learning! I also enjoy a good metaphor and the Viking theme here is vivid and wonderful. Overall, it struck me as fantastic and I thought I’d like to share it with you all. Ron generously agreed. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Let us devour knowledge in a way
That would make vikings cringe
Let’s gorge ourselves until we
Vomit certainties no one can dispute
Let truths drip from our chins
As the spittle of enlightenment
Lands in our opponents eyes
Raise your mugs, my friends
Then chug down life’s lessons
Until we are drunken sages
Then do it all again

If these words have inspired you to learn, be sure to check back on Friday. I’ll be posting a brand new Friday Link Pack #FLP for writers.
However, today you just get a nice GIF instead of a real post.
Also, a reminder: If you are a fan of The Princess Bride at all (movie or novel), you should listen to As You Wish by Cary Elwes on Audible. He narrates his memoir on the filming of this iconic cult classic with guest readings by many of the cast and crew. It is a delight to the ears.
The tale has inspired my writing and encouraged my continued honing of the craft.
There are so many distractions,
The world conspires.
Writing is a priority,
Don’t get that wrong.
Found enigma of obsession,
In minute non-art.
Writing shall fail to come to be,
Bring forth the life of life undone,
To eat feast of not.
Writing nourishes the me,
Advancement of self consumes much,
but this too shall pass.
Writing in the night sets mind free,
To wander now.
A poet I’m not. This one brought to you by the need for focus. Consider it my form of doodling. I’m going to have a new installment of Rue From Ruin for you this Friday. I’m editing right now. Well. I’m editing this post. I’m also editing Rue Part 3. It’s close.
If you’re feeling like me, it might be a good time to go back and read about The Law of the Bamboo Tree.
Enjoy a free GIF on me:
You know that feeling? The when you done did somethin’ too stupid for the Twitterverse to forgive?
Yesterday I finished a whirlwind of revisions on part 2 of Rue From Ruin, the new title of my serial story project. I’ve been a little stressed from various work, family, and writing projects, so I was stoked to be mostly done.
I posted as much on Twitter and FB.
Then, realization hit and I remembered that this part 2 is scheduled for Friday. So I wrote a retraction, and my three readers were still understandably confused.
So I’ll say it once more… TOMORROW! I’M SO EXCITED! CANT WAIT FOR YOU TO READ! RUE FROM RUIN – PART 2!
Please accept this GIF of a robot attempting to open a door as compensation for my stupidity:
